Thunderheads

1996

Lyrics:

Another cloudy day,
Another bill to pay,
Another hour wasted.
Our moment's come and gone.
Now we reflect upon
The bitterness we've tasted.

We're searching for some sign
That stars will cease to shine
And worlds will stop their spinning.
Our end is drawing near --
Or something else, we fear:
Perhaps it's just beginning.

I can feel the distant rumbling
In a darkening sky,
Where the light crashes high.
It's calling me, telling me:

Here come the Thunderheads,
Chasing the sun,
Drowning the flowerbeds.
See how they run!

Soon the rains shall cleanse the Earth.
Will there be a new birth?

These steel and concrete walls
Eventually will fall,
And their designers knew it:
The way of entropy
Or date with destiny,
Whichever way you view it.

Time is our enemy,
But surely we can see
That enemies have uses.
The door is open wide,
But still we choose to hide
Behind our own excuses.

I can hear the distant crumbling
Where the sky touches ground --
Such a beautiful sound.
It's calling me, telling me:

Here come the Thunderheads,
Chasing the sun.
Lightning tears all to shreds.
See how we run!

Soon the rains shall cleanse the Earth.
Will there be a new birth?
